Ciclum is the result of extensive research into the relationship between natural light and the human being, and the impact that its absence can have on the psychological sphere. The main objective of the project is to provide the user with quality of life and well-being according to their needs.
Thus, the result becomes a light-emotional piece that represents in itself the natural solar cycle. This success is produced when the user moves the sphere in an analogue way, being able to choose different light temperatures, depending on the time of day.
Ciclum is the representation of the natural solar course in the indoor environment, in such a way that it collaborates in the stabilisation of the circadian cycles. Each of the three colour temperatures has been chosen strategically as they bring different advantages to the user.
- The upper part belongs to the blue colour (cool light), which is associated with the stimulation of productivity and activity.
- In the centre of the lamp is the neutral colour, which could be used at any time, but according to the solar cycle it would belong to the midday.
-The orange colour at the bottom (warm light), is associated with the facilitation and stimulation of the production of melatonin, the sleep hormone. Thus, it creates an environment of relaxation and a warm atmosphere, so that it would be used in the evening.
The light sphere (which is the literal representation of the sun) moves according to the natural solar cycle, i.e. each colour temperature belongs to a specific time of the day. Each of them is associated with a series of benefits for the human health and his circadian cycles. This animation has been created by Héctor Ure, 3D artist.
Ciclum is a sculptural element. Although the lamp is switched off, it is the protagonist of the space, so that it shapes it and gives it personality. Apart from being a lighting element, it is also a decorative element.
Some Ciclum's sketches
Ciclum's prototyping                                                                                                                                               These prototypes were made to test possible operating systems around the movement of the light sphere. It should be noted that this was one of the biggest challenges of the project, as in addition to moving in both directions (up and down) it also had to maintain the electrical connection. The initial prototype was made of methacrylate and a gradient made of vinyl.
